Community Education: Author’s Event with Phil Bravin
Controlling OUR Destiny: A Board Member’s View of Deaf President Now
In 1988, the Deaf President Now movement at Gallaudet University was a turning point in American and international Deaf History. Phil Bravin was on the university’s board of trustees and couldn’t share his perspective until meeting all requirements. Now, he can share this “missing” history in this memoir.
Attendees will:
Gain a new perspective on the Deaf President Now movement from inside the board room in 1988.
Be exposed to the cultural and historical contexts that triggered the protest.
Recognize the power, access, community, and enduring legacy of a movement that inspired Deaf people worldwide.
Learn and apply the powerful leadership skills needed to make a difference for others.
Bonus: books can be purchased and signed by the author.
Event presented in American Sign Language.
