DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special storytime event with Aarron Loggins\, ASL entertainer and advocate for the deaf/hard-of-hearing community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nJoin us at the Olney Library for a special storytime event featuring Aarron Loggins. He combines storytelling and American Sign Language (ASL)\, using his hands and body to tell his stories. \nLoggins is an advocate and activist for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community\, and he has won recognition for his acting and storytelling skills. \nThis program is generously funded by the Friends of the Library\, Montgomery County. \nLibrary Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. SUMMARY:Contemporary Conversations with Haben Girma - Virtual Conquering Harvard & Becoming a Disability Rights Advocate
DESCRIPTION:The first deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School\, Haben Girma is a human rights lawyer advancing disability justice. \nMs. Girma’s tireless advocacy for people with disabilities won her the Helen Keller Achievement Award as well as praise from President Obama\, who named her White House Champion of Change. Haben teaches organizations the importance of choosing inclusion and has redefined the definition of disability\, believing that it is an opportunity for innovation. Haben will be talking about her memoir\, Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law\, how she become an advocate and her journey from isolation to extraordinary accomplishment. The event is co-sponsored by Friends of the Library\, Montgomery County\, Maryland. \nRegistration is required and available on the library’s website at the link provided. Registration will close at 1:00 pm on Saturday\, June 5. The Zoom link to participate in the program will be sent to registrants 24 hours prior to the event and again 2 hours before the program starts.
