Desus & Mero turned their Bronx-born friendship into a growing brand starting with their podcast\, The Bodega Boys\, which helped them amass an enthusiastic following for their smart and comedic off-the-cuff musings on topics including pop culture\, politics\, sports\, music\, and everything in between. The duo stars in Showtime’s first ever weekly late-night talk show\, Desus & Mero\, which is currently airing its third season of noteworthy guests and memorable conversations. They released their first book in Spring 2020\, God-Level Knowledge Darts: Life Lessons from the Bronx\, which is a guide to what they have learned\, after years in the Bronx streets\, and subsequently conducted a successful Virtual Book Tour in the height of COVID. \nPrior to their massively successful show with Showtime\, Desus & Mero starred on the Viceland series\, The Bodega Boys\, hosting a late-night show of the same name as their weekly podcast. Previously\, they appeared on Complex (Desus Vs. Mero) and MTV (Joking Off). The pair has been featured in the New York Times\, Vanity Fair\, Los Angeles Times\, Hollywood Reporter\, Variety\, and New York Magazine. In 2015\, Rolling Stone labeled them “Comedy’s Hottest Duo.” \nASL interpretation will be available for attendees. \nParking is free on Park Avenue and Cathedral Street after 6pm. Parking is $5 in the Franklin Street Garage after 5pm. \nThis lecture is made possible by the Hackerman Foundation. \n\nDial-In Information \n  \nThe conversation will also be broadcast on the Enoch Pratt Free Library Facebook page and YouTube page. It can be watched after the broadcast on Facebook Live and YouTube.

SUMMARY:Writers LIVE! Thibault Manekin
DESCRIPTION:This FREE event will be presented in-person and virtually\, registration required for in-person event. Registration closes March 2 at 12pm. Please check back for Eventbrite registration. \nThibault Manekin will be in conversation with John Brothers about his life and work. \nFrom the time he was little growing in Baltimore City\, Thibault Manekin wrestled to understand why we as human beings seemed so divided. In 2002\, Thibault traveled to South Africa\, where he combined his passion for bringing people together with a love of sports to help create Peace Players\, a nonprofit with the mission of bringing together children from war-torn countries around the world through basketball and dialogue. In 2006\, Thibault moved back to Baltimore where he helped start Seawall\, an impact driven company made up of passionate social entrepreneurs who believe in re-imagining the real estate industry as we know it. \nIn 2020\, fascinated by the lessons he learned over the years\, Thibault launched the Larger Than Yourself podcast\, a collaborative space for brave people to share how they are helping small ideas become powerful movements. The mission is to amplify the impact of their stories and inspire the courage in others to reimagine industries\, lead with purpose\, and challenge the status quo. In November of 2021\, Thibault’s released his first book\, Larger Than Yourself. \nJohn Brothers currently serves as the President of the T. Rowe Price Foundation and President of T. Rowe Price Charitable. Dr. Brothers comes to T. Rowe Price from Quidoo\, an international consulting firm he started and led for over a decade\, merging the firm in 2015. \nDr. Brothers began his work serving in the local community\, inspired by growing up in deep poverty\, serving as a community organizer and family case manager in urban neighborhoods in the Midwest to leadership positions\, including CEO\, with local and national organizations on the East Coast. \nOrder your copy of Larger Than Yourself: Reimagine Industries\, Lead with Purpose & Grow Ideas Into Movements from the Ivy Bookshop. \nASL interpretation will be available for attendees. \nWriters LIVE programs are supported in part by a bequest from The Miss Howard Hubbard Adult Programming Fund. \n\nDial-In Information \n  \nThe conversation will also be broadcast on the Enoch Pratt Free Library Facebook page and YouTube page. It can be watched after the broadcast on the library’s Facebook Live. Click here for the Live video library.

SUMMARY:Lunch and Learn: Heroes of the Underground Railroad
DESCRIPTION:Registration not required\, but encouraged. Please register for the event on Eventbrite here. \nDr. Jenny Masur will discuss her latest book\, Heroes of the Underground Railroad around Washington DC\, sharing stories of nine Maryland freedom seekers originating from a variety of counties and settling in varied destinations in the Northeast and abroad. In some ways the experiences of these men and women fit stereotypes of the Underground Railroad—Vigilance Committees\, Quakers\, crossing into Pennsylvania\, heading to the north. However\, their stories are unexpected in the key interventions of fellow African Americans\, and in the necessity of repeated flight forcing them to rebuild their lives more than once.  Hope you will join us for this important event. \nASL interpretation will be available for attendees. \nPresented in partnership with The Maryland State Archives and The Maryland Four Centuries Project. \n\nDial-In Information \n  \nPlease click the link below to join the webinar:\nhttps://marylandlibraries.zoom.us/j/91826279359?pwd=eloxQnprVHpVRGtkbjBSVVBkMjhmZz09\nPasscode: 271807\nOr One tap mobile :\nUS: +13017158592\,\,91826279359#\,\,\,\,*271807#  or +13126266799\,\,91826279359#\,\,\,\,*271807#\nOr Telephone:\nDial(for higher quality\, dial a number based on your current location):\nUS: +1 301 715 8592  or +1 312 626 6799  or +1 470 250 9358  or +1 470 381 2552  or +1 646 518 9805  or +1 646 558 8656  or +1 651 372 8299  or +1 786 635 1003  or +1 267 831 0333  or +1 253 215 8782  or +1 346 248 7799  or +1 602 753 0140  or +1 669 219 2599  or +1 669 900 9128  or +1 720 928 9299  or +1 971 247 1195  or +1 213 338 8477\nWebinar ID: 918 2627 9359\nPasscode: 271807\nInternational numbers available: https://marylandlibraries.zoom.us/u/aZ9fVB5cL \nThe presentation will also be broadcast on the Enoch Pratt Free Library Facebook page. SUMMARY:Maryland Mayhem: Scoundrels\, Spies\, and Sinners in the Free State
DESCRIPTION:Registration not required\, but encouraged. Please register for the event here. \nMaybe you’ve heard of some of Maryland’s most notorious crimes\, such as the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln or the murder of Sister Cathy\, subject of the popular Netflix series\, The Keepers.  But what about some of its lesser-known criminal transgressions?  And perhaps you’ve heard some things about the famous Alger Hiss espionage case but not that many of its scenes actually played out in Baltimore and other parts of Maryland. Join Lisa Greenhouse and Caprice DiLiello\, librarians from the Maryland Department at the Enoch Pratt Free Library/ State Library Resource Center\, for a discussion of some of these shady characters and unfortunate episodes. You’ll hear about the only known case of burking in North America. You’ll find out about a promising career in public service dashed on the rocks of family annihilation and about a nineteenth-century “friendship” gone murderously awry. \nThis is part 3 of a series of programs being presented by the Pratt’s Maryland Department during the month of October\, titled The Dark Side of Maryland.  If this program interests you\, you may wish to join us for the rest: \n\npart1 — Haunted Maryland: It’s Supernatural Hon\, October 4\, 6pm\npart 2 — Mediums\, Magicians\, and the Ouija Board: A Spiritualist History of Baltimore\, October 18\, 6pm\npart 3 — Maryland Mayhem: Scoundrels\, Spies\, and Sinners in the Free State\, October 25\, 6pm\npart 4 — Witch’s Brew: True Tales and Folklore of Witchcraft in Colonial Maryland\, October 29\, 6pm\n\nAll programs have been recorded and are available to view  from their event listing linked above. \nASL interpretation will be available for attendees.
